The Art of Gerardo Jimenez

After many years of interest in art, from childhood, on and off painting, including a stint with a group of professional artists who met and painted together weekly in the late nineties, Jimenez rediscovered watercolors in 2015. This time, he felt a much stronger need and longing to go deeper into his art, greater fulfillment, and a profound sense of purpose. . He is especially moved by how the luminosity and fluidity of watercolors show the effects of light in a way no other medium can.

With this new-found enthusiasm, Jimenez immersed himself in his art, and, familiarized himself more with the art scene. He. decided to commit and go full-time in 2018. “I wanted to see how far I could go if I finally focused on this lifetime interest I have had with painting.” He has had two solo exhibits since and plans on more.

His work is influenced by his experiences as a gardener, a businessman and an athlete. His lifetime passion for gardening led to his entrepreneurial venture, Malipayon Farms. Supplying many of the top restaurants in the metropolis with quality produce also gave him the opportunity to see up-close the beauty of restaurant interiors, and the many interesting personalities, intricacies, back stories and scenes behind these establishments. These experiences served as the inspiration for his first two solo exhibits in 2018 and 2019.

Having been a national fencing athlete several years ago, Jimenez uses the discipline he learned in sports and applies it to his art career. Having undergone the struggles necessary to excel in his sport, he appreciates even more the value of diligent practice and work, as well as grit
